Implementation of the centre begins in 2025. A foundation will be set up with its own organisation, a team of staff, and a programme coordinator. A fellowship programme will be created to bring researchers, artists and educational creators from the Netherlands and abroad to Zeeland. Work is also underway on an online knowledge portal that will combine research and family histories. The centre will also develop exhibitions, educational programmes, training courses and workshops – both on site and online.
Collaboration is key. The knowledge centre actively connects with existing networks, such as Keti Koti committees, schools, heritage institutions, archives and universities. Particular attention is given to Black leadership and ownership: the centre is being developed *with and by* descendants of enslaved people. This way, Zeeland aims to contribute to recognition, repair and future-oriented learning – locally grounded, with international
